We are designing a new modern office building in Kupittaa Science Park.
The 16,500 square meter property is located along Lemminkäisenkatu in the same block as EduCity and forms a cohesive unit with it.
As in EduCity, environmental themes are strongly involved in the design of the new office building. The property will make extensive use of solar energy and aims for the highest Platinum level of LEED environmental certification.
Many different work and office spaces, sports facilities and Werstas, a concept owned by Turku Teknologiakiinteistöt that offers communal workspaces, are planned for the building. Turku Teknologiakiinteistöt and construction company NCC have entered into the project development phase agreement for the implementation of the property. The goal is to begin construction during 2021.

Our proposal Villa Yttrium has won the architectural competition for Vartiovuorenpuisto, Turku, Finland. The client of the proposal is Suomen Laatuasunnot Oy.
Villa Yttrium consists of two town villas joined by a glass connector. The building has a total of 6 floors and an underground garage.
Hand-made brick has been chosen as the façade material and roof surface. The height of the eaves skillfully match the adjacent Villa Solaris and thus complement the row of buildings in Vartiovuorenpuisto.
The apartments with their balconies open onto a beautiful park and cozy courtyard. The sloping high ceilings have bay windows and terraces. Ecological themes are present in sustainable materials, geothermal energy and adaptability.
The modern appearance of the building complex sits well into the surroundings and compliments the old building stock, the park and the newer buildings.
Villa Yttrium's name is a tribute to Professor Johan Gadolin, who is also called the father of Finnish chemical research. Johan Gadolin discovered an element that has since been called yttrium in the 18th century. Next to Villa Yttrium is a wooden house that housed Gadolin’s laboratory. A laboratory garden was located on the site of Villa Yttrium.

The residential complex forms a village-like community in a cultural-historical environment. We went on a bike ride to this unique destination with the staff at our Turku office.
When completed, the block will have 12 buildings and will be home to a thousand people. The courtyard is like a small village with a communal block in the center. In the yard you will find a variety of activities, from gardening to relaxation. The courtyard circle is bordered by a running track, which attracts people to go outside even in winter. Under the yard deck there is parking for 300 vehicles with electric charging points. The stormwater in the block is treated centrally in an underground modern stormwater system.
The block is the largest renewable energy destination in the Nordic countries. The complex will have a total of 800 solar panels and 80 geothermal heat collection points, which will make the Harpoon block almost completely self-sufficient in energy. Ecology has been thought of from the very beginning of the project. The demolition waste of the houses from the plots has been crushed on site and used in the foundation work. Foam glass, which is a domestic recycled product, has been used as insulation under the car parking garage. In addition, the block will have centralized waste management.
The developer of the project is the Seamen's Pension Fund and the main contractor is NCC Suomi Oy.

The competition was organized by the city of Pori. The city was looking for a proposal that is architecturally and technically sound and fits well into the existing environment. The winning entry was submitted together with Burger-Talo Oy the entry replaces the existing building with a new pavilion.
The pavilion is in two main parts. The space in between becomes an axis which visually and circulation wise connects to the symmetrically planned square. The commercial spaces occupy both ends of the new pavilion. The southern side also includes bathroom facilities and storage for the market square users.
The facades of the pavilion are covered with large glass surfaces in order to make the spaces visually inviting and light. On top of the glass a wooden canopy hangs over the structure. It will be a good place to wait for a bus during rainy weather or scorching sun. The wooden wing is lit and will glow warm light to the surroundings. The metal facade portions of the building will have integrated city operated information screens and the roof will be covered with solar panels. The timetable is aiming for completion by the summer of 2021.

The prize was revealed in a gala event on Friday November 17th by the Turku SAFA organization.
The Åbo Akademi Faculty of Arts in Turku has re-located in the city block that was originally an iron factory. The oldest buildings were built in 1856 and the latest in the 1930's. All the existing buildings are protected as historically significant. The building complex is based on the winning entry "Fabrik" for the architectural competition (SAFA) held in 1997.
Renovation and expansion work was realized in four separate parts, first one being the new foundation for its 10 existing and 3 new buildings and the new basement. In the complex all but one building are connected together by glass enclosed ramps and skyways.
The main entry is at the Tehtaankatu street which leads into the courtyard and the main lobby. The main lobby is located in the metal box "masuuni” (blast furnace) building which includes meeting rooms and the auditorium. From the main lobby there are direct connections to faculty offices and the cafe. The library locates in the old metal factory building. The existing large linear spaces function well as the new library. The lowered ceiling was demolished and the beautiful steel structure was exposed. The wide factory building on the Piispankatu side is renovated and the original glass skylight is opened up. In the corner of Piispankatu and Tehtaankatu a new L-shaped building was constructed. Due to architectural clarity in the design, the old and new architecture highlight each other.
